The purpose of this exercise is to stress the importance of certain phyto-plankton to the ocean environment and the consequences of their depletion. It teaches diversity and adaptations of organisms. It also uses structure and function in living systems, regulation and behavior, population and ecosystems. Students work in 6 groups of 4.
