This kit will allow students to simulate typical laboratory tests for narcotics in urine specimens.

The drug test reagents, drugs themselves, urine specimens, positive and negative controls in this kit are simulated.~There are no narcotics, human or animal urine or dangerous reagents used in these tests.

The tests themselves follow the same protocol that a police, forensic or hospital laboratory investigator would use to test for the presence of the following narcotics or controlled substances:

  • THC - tetrahydracannibinol~(the active ingredient in marijuana).
  • Cocaine - (benzoylecgonine metabolites) - break down products of crack or cocaine in the urine.

The kit provides enough material for 200 or more repetitions.~Each student can perform all the tests included in the kit.

Special glassware or microplates are not required.~Plastic slides are provided.~These test can also be run in small (8 x 50 mm) test tubes or in the wells of a 96 well microplate.

~ The chemicals provided are non-toxic and can be handled with normal laboratory procedures.~All material in this kit can be discarded down the drain.~The chemicals in this kit will not harm pipes or septic systems.

A complete set of directions, notes, background material and answers are provided for the teacher.~ Directions for students are also provided.
