Environmental Engineering Oil Spill Management Kit

Target Grade: 7-12

A hands on oil spill awareness and cleanup kit. Students will simulate deep ocean and beach crude oil spills. Engage students in the work of an environmental engineer as they learn properties of oil and how scientists approach oil spill disasters. This kit teaches basic oil biology and chemistry concepts and has students simulating basic oil containment and removal techniques using their oil spill models.

Includes a quantitative analysis of absorbent materials, hands on skimming and dispersant activities, and an experimental introduction to the concept of bio-remediation.

Designed to accommodate 24 students working in groups of two.
