This kit introduces the concepts of elements, compounds, and mixtures with special emphasis on separating mixtures using solubility and filtration. Students also separate a mixture of black in using paper chromatography. The kit contains terms sheets, an activity sheet, laboratory exercises, a crossword puzzle, and a test. The activity sheets focus on chemical symbols and physical properties of elements and common mixtures and their components. The laboratory exercises emphasize methods of separating mixtures and the differences between elements, compounds, and mixtures.
